Dear Eden Prairie,

We live in an exceptional city.

The opportunities that await Eden Prairie’s future are boundless. From population and business growth to quality educational institutions and community life, Eden Prairie is poised to thrive in new ways.

My name is Micah Olson. I’m running for city council to bring a new perspective and approach that I feel is representative of our city, which otherwise may be overlooked.

Let me address the elephant in the room: I’m young and haven’t lived in Eden Prairie for very long. In fact, should I be elected, I would be the youngest person serving on Eden Prairie’s city council. To some, those might be negatives; to me those are my strengths.

Like many of you reading this, I chose to live in Eden Prairie for a reason, namely to achieve our city’s slogan: “Live. Work. Dream.” I wanted to call this place home. I was drawn to its sense of community, its vibrant and diverse businesses, and – yes, I also wanted to be closer to Scheels.

Eden Prairie is projected to have massive population growth in the next few decades. And that’s not by accident. More and more young individuals and families are choosing to make Eden Prairie home. Those are the voices I aim to amplify, because that voice is my own. Our city council needs to be more reflective of the direction our city is headed, and of those who are paving its way.

My entire career has been spent building relationships across vast industries and organizations, state and local government entities, and people from all walks of life. I intend on harnessing those relationships and forging new ones along the way for the betterment of our city and its residents. During my time of bringing people together, I’ve learned that business, community, and local government aren’t pillars of a city that stand alone – they are intersections, and people are the points at which they meet.

In order for any local government to best serve its residents and businesses, it needs to be three things: accessible, addressable, and accountable. So here is my commitment to the residents of Eden Prairie:

  • To strive to be the most reachable and responsive city council member ever elected,
  • Leverage my relationships on the Three Rivers Park Board, Hennepin County, the State of Minnesota, and the Federal Government to propel the City of Eden Prairie and its goals, and;
  • Work to break down the divisiveness of partisan politics by cultivating an environment of listening, trust, and respect.

In truth, my campaign for city council is really a campaign for serving you. And how I run my campaign will be very much like how I intend to serve: together.

Let’s build a bright future for the city of Eden Prairie. I hope you’ll join me.
